明仁大学医院普通外科课长李周莞即将退居二线，空下的职位将由谁来接任？李周莞属意自己的大学学弟、海归派医生鲁民国。但是有人对这一职位早已虎视眈眈，他就是明仁大学医院普外副教授、李周莞的弟子张尊赫。 　　张尊赫是公认的医学天才，但其锋芒毕露、野心勃勃的架势为自己明里暗里树敌不少，李周莞就是其中之一。当然，张尊赫并非等闲之辈，强烈的出人头地的欲望早就驱使他为自己的前途铺好了路。这不，即将被下放到地方医院时，他的丈人出面力挽狂澜，还为他组织了一队同盟军。 　　争夺外科课长的肉搏战打响，张尊赫神经绷得太紧意外出错，上演了一场哀求卢民国的滑稽剧，结果搞得众判亲离。不过鸣金收兵时还是张俊赫胜出。 　　第一步目标实现，张尊赫雄心勃勃地把下一个目标瞄向了国际。然而，一个他没放在眼里的小人物的手术把他推上了被告席。此时的张尊赫完全被权势和野心俘虏，这是一场欲望与良心、强权势力与弱小人物、善与恶之间的较量，每一个卷入其中的人都面临着考验。到底哪一方会在较量中胜出？天才总是令人崇拜的，那么天才医生张尊赫的从医之路又将何去何从？ 　　医院是一个浓缩了的社会，而这部剧则用显微镜放大了白大褂下的人们面对权势和野心时的人间百态。血雨腥风终究要归于沉寂，此时，电视机前的我们也许会思考：“人到底是什么？” 　　本剧改编自日本作家山崎丰子同名小说，全剧情节紧凑，冲突迭起，演员对人物的演绎也入木三分，是一部有着十年内不会湮没美誉的另类韩剧。
