Constantine vzniká podle grafických románů Hellblazer. Hlavní postavou je John Constantine, který zpochybňuje svou víru. Musí totiž čelit hříchům své minulosti, když je náhle dosazen do role ochránce lidstva proti sílícím silám temnoty. Lovec démonů. Specialista na okultismus. Mistr temných nauk. Tím vším je John Constantine, blonďák, kterého neuvidíte jinak než s cigaretou v ústech. S pomocí svých znalostí a neutuchajícího sarkasmu bojuje proti démonům, kteří se snaží ovládnout lidstvo. Nebije se ani tak za síly dobra, jako spíš za to, co on sám považuje za správné. A není úplný svatoušek. Jeho věčně zatracená duše nemá místo v nebi, v pekle na něj už ale dávno čekají. Když démoni zacílí na dceru jeho nejlepšího přítele, udělá všechno proto, aby ji od nich uchránil. Liv - jak se dcera jmenuje - má totiž nadání vidět "druhou stranu" - světy za naším světem - a předvídat nadpřirozené události. Díky tomu ví, že nabírá na síle nové zlo, a také ví, že ona sama je pro toto zlo hrozbou. Musí se spojit s Constantinem a projet zemi, aby společně zahnali démony tam, kam patří. A kdo ví... možná se po tomto skutku najde pro Constantina trocha odpuštění...
