Jack Issel po ukončení štúdia obchodu nastupuje do veľkej americkej korporácie I.N.C. Čoskoro tu spoznáva odvrátenú stranu sveta obchodu, keď zisťuje, že po kariérnom rebríku nahor nemožno stúpať bez korupcie, lží a podvádzania ostatných. Hoci sú tieto praktiky Jackovi cudzie, jeho kariéra stúpa stále nahor, bez toho aby si to Jack dokázal nejako vysvetliť. Postupne mu dochádza, že príčinou jeho kariérneho vzostupu je fakt, že jeho otec je vplyvným (a skorumpovaným) senátorom. Jack zisťuje, že ho I.N.C. všemožne podporuje preto, že dúfa, že jeho otec bude v komore hlasovať o dôležitom zákone v prospech záujmov spoločnosti. Jackovi tak nezostáva nič iné, než sa pustiť s I.N.C. do nerovného boja a pokúsiť sa nielen dokázať, že je dobrým obchodníkom, ale tiež získať srdce milovanej Rachel.
