Über der Insel Shelter Island braut sich an Halloween ein gigantisches Unwetter zusammen. Trotz des drohenden Jahrhundertsturms nehmen die drei Schwestern Sarah, Marley und Jill am 31. Oktober die Fähre Richtung Eiland. Dort bereiten sich die Bewohner schon auf kräftigen Regen, tosenden Wind, lauten Donner und grelle Blitze vor.
