Følger Sergei helt fra barndommen som 6-årig, hvor han trænede i drømmen om at blive olympisk gymnast. Gennem forældrenes privatoptagelser er vi vidne til en dreng, der allerede som 8-årig var bestemt til en karriere som balletdanser. Hans familie gjorde alt for, at drømmen skulle lykkes og kæmpede en hård kamp for at få råd til, at Sergei kunne komme på balletskole i Kiev. Vi får interviews med familien, vennerne, kollegerne; også dem, som ser ham som modspiller i stedet for medspiller. Tilmed bydes på stribevis af klip fra Sergeis optrædener på scenen. Hvert et skridt på Sergeis rejse er foreviget.
