Pravdivý příběh jedné z nejvýstřednějších dam londýnské předválečné smetánky Laury Hendersonové a jejího divadla Windmill. Dříve slavné divadlo kvůli rozmachu filmového průmyslu přišlo o své diváky. Paní Hendersonová, poháněná touhou přilákat publikum zpět, se navzdory svému věku a s pomocí divadelního manažera Viviana van Damma snaží o znovuzrození zašlé slávy Windmillu.
